What is Dhagpo Thoesamling school ?

The Dhagpo Thoesamling school,in Kullu,INDIA is registered under Dhagpo Shedrupling Monastery. The monastery has the executive power. The school is non profit, charitable institution for the care and education of poor and destitute children specially in the Himalayan region.

  H I S T O R Y 

Lord Buddha was born in India. Buddhism originated in India and spread to Tibet. Now Buddhism is not only a minority in India but in a crucial condition. The people don’t know the true meaning of Buddhism. There is great concern and repeated speeches from His Holliness the Dalia Lama. His eminence the Dhagpo Rinpoche have the same view.

Under the special blessing of His Hollines the Dalia Lama, Dhagpo Rinpoche,spiritual partner Geshe Thupten la and the generous help from Entrade Franco Tibetane,members of religious association,students and friends of rinpoche,we were able to start the search for a good land. Soon the school building begin on 24^th December 2001 at first.

Ven. Guru Rinpoche and Mr. Pema Namgyal were requested to take the charge to open the school. After two years ,an urgent call came from Rinpoche in mid December 2003 to start the school. There was meeting of construction staff and Mr. Pema Namgyal (secrtary of the society) right next day. It was unanimously decided to leave the job to Ven. Tendar and Mr. Tsering Wangyal. Luckily there was a fruitful and on the ground work out in few days. Weeks later they had meeting in Delhi during rinpoche visit in India. Special thoughts was given for any contribution from the parents to the school. If they get everything free, the parents would under estimate and neglect their child. This was our great concern. So, to increase the responsibility towards their child and to remind their value of the small contribution, it was decided to collect one hundred and fifty rupees only per month.This is only tenth of the expense of a child.

Then admission began on 19^th April 2004, with arrival of more than twenty children from Spiti. Many children from the tribal Lahoul-Spiti area who are residing in Kullu-Manali also joined the school. There were thirteen native Indian who were also admitted despite rumours.

Finally a special day was consulted and the school was inaugurated days later on 22^nd by the district commissioner Mr. R.J. Najin. The total came to fourty five students around the inauguration. They were divided into two classes. With influx of more children each year, automatically classes moved upto fifth standard. At present there are one hundred and six (106) students.The fourteen small monks from our monastery above the school were included. The strength of staff is fourteen, a principal, seven teachers,three foster mother, a nurse and two cooks.

At first the children look pale,dirty and uncivilized.They were very harsh,uncontrollable and very aggressive.Later we brought them to human.This is one of our biggest achievement.The school runs successfully well under the blessings of rinpoche and generous previously mentioned associations and friends.

Every year Rinpoche visits the place. We have meetings on educational development and problems on school. He always stress the need to develop a good human being and advice the children on the teachings of Lord Buddha. As quoted once,” He said, I have built the monastery and school for the welfare of all sentient beings. If I can produce one good human being that is what I dreamt of and my wish fulfilled”.

Until now we are well blessed but what is our future? It is an unpredictable question. Therefore, we strongly request kind and interested persons to help and donate anything to the school. We highly appreciate your concern. We need your support to give a meaningful live and education to the children and building a good human being. You can donate in any form of funds or clothing, stationery, educational books, medicines or sponsor a child. You can also tell a friend.

WHAT WE GIVE TO OUR CHILDREN

We can not forget to provide safe feeling of a their own homes. We have group homes. In these homes we grantee more than their homes even in the sense of love and care, the warmth of parents and feeling of brothers and sisters. These homes have facilities of kitchen also.

Impart from good modern education, we give first preference to good human being and good environment of harmless.

We always remind the speeches of H.H. the Dalia Lama. As quoted, ”We want a good human being rather than well educated evil person. A person with little knowledge, if he has a good mind can be more useful and serve the humanity and all the sentient beings as a whole”.

Impart the best of modern education along with a deep and intimate understanding of the rich culture.
