Brief History    

Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery (victorious institute of Buddhist philosophical studies and practices). Likewise many scholar and legendary of Tibet had praised for the Dhakpo Monastery, H.H. The IInd Dalai lama, Gendun Gyatso once stated, “The Lamp of the Buddha dharma around remote area” Again H.H. the 5th Dalai Lama stated, “Choe-Khor-Gyal, a solitary place foretold by the victorious Buddha, Like a pleasing garden, from which the elegant instructions sounds, that is, The Dhakpo Shedrupling  Monastery, systemized the great pioneers of Buddha Dharma”, The great Tsong_Khapa presented scholar, Je-Lodoe Tenpa Pel Sangpo a Dharma book titled "Greater Graded Path to Enlightenment" and instructed him to establish Dharma Institutes along the Dagpo region. The precious Dharma flourish and founded the monastery. he was the sixth succession among the seven linkage of Manjushri origin. He took hold of the power of Golden throne of second Buddha Tsong Khapa. The Monastery is well known for strict discipline and quality monastic education. There are fifteen levels of classes. many learned scholars and Gaden Throne holder emerged from this monastery. There are six Gaden throne holder and Jamyang Lama Konchok twice enthronement makes seven. Like the (7th) superior Je-Lodoe Tenpa, (35th) Jamyang Konchok Choephel, (36th) Kongpo Tenzin Legshe, (38th) Dhakpo Tenpa Gyaltsen or Choegyal Tashi, (43rd) superior Jampa Tashi, (52nd) Dhakpo Ngawang Tsephel. H.H. the Dalai Lama is the Patron  and has always supported the monastery. H.H.the 3rd the Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso and holly master composed most of the melodic tones of the prayer recitations contained in the ritual text of the monastery. Therefore these melodic prayer tones posses intense blessings and tendency to plant virtuous  seeds of liberation within their mental continuum as they passes your ears. The melodic prayer of this monastery are the most popular among all the melodies in entire Tibet. This is the only monastery having complete set of Lamrim Lama lineage statue as main assemble inside temple.

The monastery first began with some eight monks. Later rise to seven hundred till 1959. That year, the Monastery was fully destroyed and monks were brutally tortured. Only a trunk of an incenses tree at the middle of stone laid ground was left. Gradually monks escaped to India and Kyabje Dhakpo Rinpoche luckily managed to reach India. The restoration of monastery started at Mon (Bomdila) in Arunachal Pradesh eastern India. H.H. Kyabje Dhakpo Rinpoche is the head Lama, only protector and source of support. Also spiritual partner Geshe lag Thupten Phuntsok, friend, members of religious centre and Entaide Franco Tibetane, through their generous help, made us what we are today.

Subsequently in 1982, directions came from H.H. The Dalai Lama and religious department of Tibetan exile Government have asked to shift the monastery at  Tibetan settlement Mainpat (Chhattisgarh). Coincidently, our second Patron, His Holiness the Songtsen Gampo, linkage arrived in India at the Long life offering of Kalachakra. Though the land was productive, clean atmosphere and full of good qualities. But then frequent malaria illness, and bad mean of transportation, the tradition way of exchanging visitor and those insignificant facility left no option. So His eminence Rinpoche decided to find a place in the Himalayan region. On 1st Aug/1999, H. H. The Dalai Lama had blessed the place on his way to Kalachakra at Spiti. The place was originally marked for Dharma preservation on 3rd Dec, 2001 and road was constructed accordingly. After three years of great struggle, finally fully fledged monastery was built in the Himalaya region in Kullu Distt. Thereafter H.H. the Dalai Lama has extended his gracious step to mark the inauguration on 11th May 2005, along with the chief Minister Veer Bhadra Sign. At present there are 140 monks in the monastery.
